A Doctor’s Confession To His Community
(And Why I Do What I Do)

Dear Friends,

I want to give credit where credit is due. So perhaps a confession can help clear the air so there’s no misunderstanding. Before I talk about my confession, let me say a few things first.

Let me start by explaining the photo. When I meet people in town they usually say, "Oh, yeah, I know you, you’re Dr. Mike. I’ve seen your ad with that picture of you and the two cute little girls." Well, I’m the guy on the right. Let me tell you my story.
In 1988, something happened that changed my life forever
and has affected the way I look at life.

In 1988, my Olympic dreams were coming true. I had been training extremely hard, and I qualified for the 1988 Olympic trials in the 10,000 meter run. I thought nothing could go wrong -- until I was hit with a dose of reality. I started having terrible knee pain. This pain affected my running tremendously. I went to see several medical specialists who gave me injections of cortisone. That didn’t help. I even went so far as having arthroscopic surgery, but when they went in, they found nothing wrong with my knee. I was frustrated, upset, and I thought that my running career was over. How could I work so hard and then not be able to compete? I was devastated.

Then, I decided to do something that I had never done before. I went to see a chiropractor. The chiropractor didn’t even look at my knee, because he knew what the problem was right away. He did an exam, took some films, and then adjusted my spine and worked to level my pelvis and hips. The adjustment didn’t hurt, it actually felt good. I got relief from my knee pain, and after just a few adjustments, the pain was almost completely gone! I could run again. I was so impressed that I decided to become a chiropractor myself!

Now for my nieces. They have both been under chiropractic care all of their lives and they very rarely get sick with the common childhood illnesses the way their little friends often do. They are typical chiropractic kids. That may seem like a small thing, but it makes a huge difference to them and their family.

Now people come to see me with their knee problems. Also they come to me with their headaches, migraines, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, ear infections, asthma, allergies, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries -- just to name a few.
